Research Activity

・Recent Research Theme: Collaborative Policy-Making and Sustainable Regional Development through Conserving/Enhancing Diverse Ecosystem Services (Nature’s Benefits)

Research focus includes policy making methods through participation and collaboration of stakeholders to sustainably achieve multiple/conflicting environmental, economic and social values, and also policy measures based on ecosystem service approaches such as PES/ecosystem service forestry/businesses through global point of view.

In kakenhi research titled: “Payment Scheme by Tourism and Recreation Visitors”, PES-VGS (Visitor Giving Scheme) is experimented in Yuzawa town, Niigata Prefecture in collaboration with Yuzawa Town Tourism Association (website:https://www.e-yuzawa.gr.jp/) since 2019, based on research in UK. In addition, in Sophia University Academic Research Special Promotion Grant (Emphasized Area Research): “Innovative Methods and Strategies for Provision of Forest Ecosystem Services: Aiming for Sustainable Region”, working in collaboration with international European research networks such as SINCERE (Spurring INnovations for forest eCosystem sERvices in Europe)(website: https://sincereforests.eu/progress-plans-and-potential-impact-at-sincere-halfway-point/),

Development of new evaluation methods and indicators of forest environmental services, and innovative activities such as PES and Forest Service Industry are conducted.
